Spray painting fur?

My wife recently took her fur her coat out of storage. This got me thinking about the arguments against fur and specifically some of the fanatics that, like fanatics are apt to do, take the issue to far.

I recall hearing about people who, in protesting the wearing of fur, will actually accost people on the street who are wearing it, and spray paint the garment in attempt to ruin it and, so the theory goes, to persuade them not to wear fur.

Am I the only person who sees the fallacy in this action? If someone were to spray paint my wife's coat, aside from their arrest for assault, what will they accomplish? My wife would file an insurance claim, and buy a new coat. Additional cute, ferry creatures will be killed and the only one to pay would be the insurance company. I fail to see how this is a deterrent. It seems like their action only results in more dead cute furry creatures. Isn't that what they were trying to avoid in the first place?

The same could be said for environmentalists who trash car lots (usually setting SUVs on fire). Most often, the only ones to pay are the insurers. Sure, insurance rates might go up, but does anybody stop buying these vehicles because of their actions? I say no.

I'm not supporting the driving of big obnoxious vehicles. I'll discuss them in a future posting. I'm also not sure whether fur is cruel or not. I do know, that it is my right to decide what I wear. If you choose not to wear a particular fabric, that is your choice. Just leave mine alone.

Jeff's Stuff

Sometimes funny, sometimes serious, this is where I'll share my views on "stuff". Observations, critiques, thoughts and views, that's what you will find here.

These are my opinions. If you disagree, I respect that. Tell me why. Don't bother saying, "you are wrong" if you aren't willing to give a reason.
